As a rule, with first time customers I prefer cash as the first form of payment, however it is not something that I absolutely require. I prefer cash only for a first time client, simply because as a first time customer, we have never done business together before, and I cannot be sure that the check you write me is not going to bounce. Does that happen often? Of course not, however I would rather be safe than sorry. Unfortunately, the few have ruined it for the many. After the first time we do business, I do not worry about how my customers pay, I accept cash, cards, and checks. The only caveat with cards, is that there is a small tax when cards are swiped, however this is a negligible amount. For example, a transaction of $150 might have an added card swipe tax of $5.
